In a strategic move, the Marriott hotel chain is all set to highly expand its presence in Mexico. Most notably, Mexico has been regarded as one of the most popular sun destination for Americans and Canadians, in addition to an increasing number of Europeans. A report published in the Washington Business Journal notes that the international hotel giant shall necessarily attempt to triple the number of its establishments that it operates in Mexico, during the next five years period. This move forms part of a wider strategy aimed at increasing the presence of Marriott outside of the United States. Notably, outside the US, the firm is already a popular player in the hospitality industry.
At present, Marriott owns and operates about 16 hotels in Mexico. Several of these properties are sited in resort town and highly popular leisure destinations. If the expansion proposal goes on according to the schedule, the introduction of these new ranges of Marriott hotels shall give a significant boost to the Mexican economy, creating not less than 3,000 new jobs in the hospitality industry. On the whole, 29 new hotels are being planned for various cities and towns in Mexico, with the expansion project estimated to cost the owners of these properties about $1 billion spent towards establishment and running.
Ed Fuller, hotel firm's president noted that while Mexico has an attractive tourist destination for quite long for Americans and Canadians, due to the rise of a New Mexican middle class, a commendable development has been brought about in the arenas of domestic and national tourism. |

Having conducted a study of 2008 Current and Future Technology Use in the Hospitality Industry, the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) has recently announced its findings. The study was funded by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation (AH&LEF), which is the not-for-profit affiliate of AH&LA. Analysing the top areas of information technology (IT) popularly implemented at hotels, the study also quantifies increased customer demand thereby motivating hoteliers to improve their product with new and innovative range of amenities and programs. Most responding properties clearly agreed that IT is highly important for enhancing customer satisfaction (82.4 percent). In addition, enhancing employee efficiency was rated 79.9 percent) and generating revenue was rated 71.3 percent. Over 82 percent of respondents noted that Wi-Fi services were among the IT system that guests highly care about. Notably, eighty-six percent of responding hotels already provided Wi-Fi services, while the rest had concrete plans to offer the same within the next five years. Following Wi-Fi, the other important amenities preferred by customers were in-room entertainment systems and airline check-in kiosks, with 48 percent and 38 percent of respondents respectively.
AH&LA President/CEO Joseph A. McInerney, CHA observed, "Results of this study indicate hoteliers are critically monitoring and taking action to fulfill their guests' wants and needs as the average consumer gets more and more tech-savvy. During the past decade, advancements in IT have significantly shaped the way the lodging industry plans, controls, and manages operations in all segments of the hospitality community." |

A Shropshire hotel has started to offer free petrol to those who stay at the property.
Guests staying overnight in Broseley at the Old Rectory in Broseley will be able to enjoy a range of exclusive benefits: many of its rooms have antique furniture, private Jacuzzis, four-poster beds and works of art decorating the walls. And, now they are giving away 5 litres of petrol free.
David Hoyle, the owner of the hotel who was seeing a fall in business in recent past, that he attributed to inflation and the higher fuel costs, said, "It's our little bit of Dunkirk spirit. We live in a rural area and are very dependent on tourism, and we don't want to give up on our staff or those who want to come and visit but feel the effects of the crunch stopping them".

A modern restaurant with rooms located in one of the most spectacular venues in the country is having a good time with both a 4 yellow star, AA Highly Commended rating and an AA Red Rosette accreditation for culinary distinction, as it firmly places itself on the list of must-stay locations in Britain.
The yellow stars show that the Windermere-based Hideaway's property is in the top 10 per cent of its kind, black stars being the signs of grade given by this highly appreciated inspection system.
The Hideaway, at the heart of the charming Lake District, is not completely stunned by this appreciation from outside for its product's excellence.

IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), which provided accommodation to the champion Manchester United team in its Crowne Plaza Moscow World Trade Centre, is asking the authorities in Russia to ease entry visa checks following its highly successful management of the final of the Uefa Champions League.
IHG's Chief Operating Officer Continental Europe, Robin Wicks, said, "The Russian authorities have done a sterling job fast-tracking its complex visa process to ensure the 50,000 British soccer fans who went to Moscow could get there at short notice. We applaud their actions.
This goes to show it can be done. But Russia's current visa process is simply far too slow and is seriously hampering the emerging tourist trade. By adopting similar measures to those used for the Manchester United and Chelsea fans, the volume of tourism traffic could dramatically rise".

In a significant announcement, the editors of the National Geographic Traveler Magazine have included Wentworth By the Sea Hotel & Spa in the first ever stay list of the magazine. With its debut in the April 2008 issue of the magazine, the list consists of about 150 properties across United States, Mexico,Canada and the Caribbean. Most notably, Wentworth By the Sea is the only property in this list from the New Hampshire region.
The process for preparing the list sought to identify the 'sense of place'. This means, discovering properties that reflect the spirit of their location by sharing their soul. Following a nation-wide search for nominations, more than 600 probing questionnaires were sent to the properties that were nominated. Only one quarter of the nominees could qualify for the final cut.
Frank Wetenkamp, Wentworth General Manager observed, "The Wentworth team is dedicated to providing the best possible guest experience we can, day in and day out. It is extraordinary and gratifying to be recognized in the same week by our industry peers for our operating excellence and by a prestigious national travel magazine and its advisors for the impression we make on the outside, through the unique sense of place we bring to our guests."

There is a strong reason for skiers to rejoice during this season, as there is a heavy snowfall at most ski resorts across Europe. With a heavy snowfall, the popular ski resorts located in Austria, France Italy and Switzerland have covered themselves with a thick blanket of ice to bestow a wonderful skiing experience for visitors.
The ideal one among the resorts in France is the Argentiere, located in the Chamonix valley. The location had around 106cm of snowfall during the five days of Easter holidays. Also, Tigens experienced not less than 75 cm of snowfall during the weekend. However, the highest snowfall is recorded in Cauterets, located in the Pyrenees, with a snow depth increasing by 150cm during last week. At the Crans Montana in Switzerland, there was about 141cm snowfall.
Spokeswoman for Ski Club Great Britain told Times Online, Vanessa Fisher, remarked, "For people who want to ski now there are stacks of skiing to be had. The problem is that people tend to think Easter means the end of the ski season, but this year it'll go on well into the end of April."

The Andrew Harper Hideaway Grand Award presented annually lists out properties that have been able to demonstrate a strong individual personality coupled with their strong commitment to personal service. This is precisely the ethos of Summer Lodge Country House Hotel, Restaurant and Spa. This idyllic property is ideally located in the picture postcard village of Evershot, deep inside the Thomas Hardy Country in Dorset.
The Andrew Harper Grand Award title clearly distinguishes those properties that are just marginally good or even great from that of those that are really captivating. Precisely, the recipients of this title are those hotels that go the extra mile besides creating unforgettable experience for their guests. Being small in size is a necessary characteristic for this award, combined with the hotel's spirit of plenitude, and genuine and generous hospitality. Notably, this accolade is deemed highly prestigious.
Ideally located to the south of Sherborne, Summer Lodge is a renowned member of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection. Significantly, this classic country house hotel is highly typical of the genre. The most naturally luxurious and popular resort of Egypt, Taba Heights, is enjoying its increasing popularity with the UK guests. The recently released new figures clearly indicate that Taba Heights remains a favourite among the frequently travelling Brits. Notably, it is reported that guests hailing from the UK are consistently filling approximately one in three room nights working out to around 38%.
This particular trend is highly significant because the French constitute the second highest number to book room nights. This group represents about 12% of the total. In terms of actual numbers of travellers visiting the resort, the UK also retains its top position, with over 28% of the arrivals being British. In addition, this is a stretch remaining ahead of the neighbouring Israel, which assumes the second place, accounting for 11% of arrivals.
On the whole, the resort also delightfully reports that there is a 19% increase on occupancy figures for the year 2007 when compared to the figures of the previous year. In fact, occupancy across all the five hotels was quite higher than what was noted in the year 2006. This gives the highest overall occupancy that the resort has experienced since its opening in 2000.
