Virgin Atlantic is all set to start a new course on Flying Without Fear (FWF) at Bournemouth airport on the 22 July 2007. The aim of this course is to build confidence among sufferers to overcome their fear while flying.
There is no denying the fact that anyone who flies even someone not afraid of flying understands that there is always some chance of an accident, just as with any life activity.
But everyone knows that in reality very few accidents happen in aviation because pilots are specifically trained to stay calm and to think clearly in an emergency and they are trained to handle just about every emergency imaginable. This particular course includes an optional 45 minute flight journey at the end of the course.
The highlight of the course includes a brief introduction from the entire Virgin Atlantic team. The charismatic Virgin Atlantic captain will take the command in introducing all about the operation of aircraft during the morning session viz. how an aircraft operates, recognize what the associated noises are, understand why turbulence is safe and have all their questions answered, through this way the team helps overcome the fear of flying among sufferers. The afternoon session is led by David Landau, a well-known psychotherapist. He talks in detail about fears and phobias and teach the participants the skills how to overcome them and this helps them preparing them for the flight.
During the 45 minute flight on commercial jet, one of the pilots gives a running commentary throughout the flight reinforcing all that has been learnt throughout the day. At the end of the session participants receive a free CD specially compiled by David Lanadau. All participants also get Certificates signed by Sir Richard Branson.
