To have a glimpse of sceneries and rural communities unmoved for a very long time, and a rich flora outdoing many better known botanical sites, go in with Naturetrek on an eight-day admiration of the flowers of Slovakia's foothills and plains, leaving London on the 7th of June 2008.
The magnificence of the flora will be exposed all through this painstakingly timed expedition looking at different habitats ranging from the Slovak Karst in the south, the place where visitors will find flowers typical of the dry plains, to the far above alpine fields of the High Tatras Mountains.
Making use of suitably located hotels as centres, travellers will enjoy daily expeditions into wildflower rich fields.
The first base of this expedition will be the former Roman region of Pannonia, holding stretches of mostly flat area known as the Slovak Karst. Flowering season is at its peak in June for the many local and specialised plants that are found here. There are many nature reserves that have been created to look after this vulnerable steppe environment.
The Muran Plateau National Park provides a wonderful environment for the widespread Saxifraga wahlenbergii, Red Helleborine and Alpine Aster. Then, Naturetrek moves into the Tatras Mountains, setting off with a couple of nights in the Mala Fatra National Park-also called the Low Tatras.
All this is available for a price of just £1,095 per person. Price includes flights, transfers, accommodation and all meals.
