Sri Lankan Airlines to add UK-Maldives link

Sri Lankan Airlines will be beginning scheduled service between the United Kingdom and the Maldives this autumn season.

Starting from the 26th of October, the airline will fly a four times a week service from London Heathrow airport to capital city Male, with an estimated 11 hours and 15 minutes' journey time. This is great news for passengers who want to fly to this place from London. Now they will be able to take direct flights from Heathrow Airport to Maldives, which are also provided by Air Maldives but have shortage of flying machines.

Air Maldives, the National carrier, already operates direct flights to the UK airport, but with a fleet of only five flying machines the carrier has made a great effort to accommodate multiplying demand for a number of routes.

And, as a result, Sri Lankan Airlines has been the leading scheduled operator for travellers visiting the island group for the last twenty years. Now, the airline has decided to offer regular flights to these islands offering the passengers a great chance to visit these beautiful destinations in the times when lots of airlines are reducing number of routes.

According to the Dhivehi Observer, an airline spokesman Chanaka Olagama said, "We recognise the need to introduce this non-stop service for such a popular holiday destination".

"Customers' needs are our priority and we believe that this new direct service will provide a time-effective way to travel in style and comfort to their paradise location", the spokesman added.
