Southern, the train operator will take charge of the operations of the popular rail service Gatwick Express that runs between central London and Gatwick Airport on the 22nd of June.
The first train will leave Victoria at 3.30 a.m. for the Gatwick airport.
The airport rail connection is to come under stewardship of Southern as part of a plan to reduce overcrowding on the Brighton route. This could turn to be a crucial change for the Gatwick Express as crowding is a major problem for passengers who want to go to Gatwick Airport from London-but now, it seems the problem will be solved.
The strategy will see the train operator expand Gatwick Express services to Brighton in the morning and evening peaks from the month of December.
Chris Burchell, managing director of Southern, said, "We are delighted to operate this prestigious service alongside our own superb services. Passengers using Gatwick Express from Sunday will see little change, as we will continue to deliver the standards that they have become accustomed to".
Burchell further said, "However, there will be some immediate improvements, such as the new ticket machines we've purchased for Victoria and Gatwick stations. This will make it even easier for customers to buy their tickets".
"There will be newly re-fitted trains to support the new extended services and these will help to provide 2000 additional seats into London, on one of the network's most congested routes" Burchell added.
