After a gap of three years, Loganair enters the route once again and starts offering scheduled flights connecting Shetland and Norway. Recently releasing the schedule for these operations, the airline announced that the new service would be operated with two services a week between Bergan, the second largest city of Norway and Shetland. The services in the said route are to commence flying from 7th June to continue till 30th of August.
It is strongly believed that the announcement of these new services is just the beginning of the airline's series of developmental plans to further the links between Scotland and Norway.
The chief executive of Loganair, Peter Tierney, observed, "Shetland is a very important market for us and having listened to our customers, we have decided to take this step of introducing a new route to Bergen. The strong cultural and ethnic links that already exist between the two destinations makes the launch of our new route an obvious development for Loganair. It is also expected to contribute significantly to the local economy by supporting industries that employ many Shetlanders, such as agriculture, fishing, tourism and energy industries."
The services in this route will be operated on Tuesday and Saturday. The Bergen service offered by Loganair forms part of the airline's franchise partnership with British Airways, the one-way fares on the route start from £59 to £145 inclusive of taxes.
