Ryanair, Europe's largest low-cost carrier, launched nine new routes from Birmingham Airport, all starting from the month of October this year, as it introduced yesterday its 25th European base at the Birmingham airport. This is great news for passengers as most of the news are filled with routes being cancelled by the airlines.
In addition to earlier announced routes from the UK airport, the carrier said that it would introduce another 9 routes from the month of October.
The new routes are flights to Derry, Alicante, Katowice, Fuerteventura, Krakow, Kaunas, Palma, Murciar and Malaga.
Bridget Dowling of Ryanair said that the introduction of the carrier's new base at Birmingham airport was a double celebration.
She said, "We're celebrating the arrival of our first based aircraft here and we're also announcing a further nine new routes which go on sale today".
The Irish based carrier has said that there was huge potential for the carrier to expand at Birmingham. The carrier hoped to be carrying 5 million travellers per year in and out of the hub in 5 years, up from 300,000 travellers that year.
Peter Vella, business development director at Birmingham Airport, said, "We are delighted to be officially unveiling Birmingham Airport as Ryanair's 25th base, as well as welcoming the announcement of these further nine scheduled routes".
"These new services will offer passengers travelling from their local airport even greater choice and flexibility, allowing them to travel from within their region - whether that be for leisure or business", Vella added.
