Recycling of Christmas Trees
Green Travel

All the Christmas festivities are over: the festive fare has been finished, all the gifts and presents opened and the card, cans, glass and paper recycled. But, still there is one thing left untouched-your Christmas tree!

In Birmingham, there are numerous ways to recycle the real Christmas trees, just like other green waste; taking the tree to a local Household Recycling Centre, with the help of the garden waste collection service or taking advantage of the service that the Parks Service is offering.

It is up to you that which way you are going for the recycling of your Christmas tree, it will be done in an environmentally friendly way-the trees taken away by the garden waste collectors will be composted.

Cabinet Member for Transportation and Street Services, Cllr Len Gregory, said, "We have extended the garden waste collection service to cover 360,000 households during 2007 and this has produced some phenomenal amounts of green waste. We are continuing to offer the service throughout the winter on a fortnightly basis to allow residents to tidy their gardens, and recycle their Christmas trees easily".

People can also help the garden waste collectors-just tie up the tree branches so that they can comfortably put it into their vehicle.

If you need more details about recycling, you can call at 0121 303 1112 or send an email to recycling@birmingham.gov.uk. You can also visit www.birmingham.gov.uk/recycling.
