Qantas received its first flying machine equipped with the new Premium Economy cabin of the carrier.

Mr John Borghetti, Executive General Manager at the airline, said that the introduction of Premium Economy cabin presents passengers a fresh option in long haul international journey.

He said, "Qantas Premium Economy offers extra space and comfort and enhanced levels of service. We have invested significantly in developing this cabin, which is being progressively installed across our B747-400 fleet and will be available on every Qantas A380".

The first flying machine fitted with Premium Economy cabin, B747-400 registration VH-OJK, will start serving passengers from today and will fly QF127 to Hong Kong from Sydney.

In the beginning, the airline's Premium Economy cabin, which has 32 seats arranged in a 2-4-2 setting, is available on a few limited services between Sydney-London and Sydney-Johannesburg. More routes will be introduced as the new feature is increasingly developed.

For journey on limited B747 services from the 1st of April, 2008, the seats in the new Premium Economy cabin have been put on sale by the carrier since the month of November 2007.

Some of the routes available include: From Sydney to: Hong Kong at a price starting from just $1996; Johannesburg at a price beginning from just $4246; Singapore at a price starting from just $2220; London at a price starting from just $4611; and  Bangkok at a price starting from just $2580. All the fares are for return flights.
