A new tracking service, dubbed Locate, is being launched by the Foreign Office for family members of Brits who get caught up in a problem abroad.
All the details of the new service will be released on this Friday, the 16th of May. It is believed that it will be relying on regular programme updates from individuals living in a foreign country.
With the new two-way facility travellers will also be able to declare themselves safe after an overseas crisis, that will help consular officials to handle their recovery work more efficiently and effectively.
According to a research recently conducted by tickbox.net, two-thirds of those living in the UK do not know the exact location of their relative when they are on a trip to a foreign country.
FCO minister Meg Munn, said, "It's great to get off the beaten track when we're away from home, but things can change very quickly in any country.
Telling us where you will be - whether it's a short trip or you're travelling for a year - could help us either to get to you if you are in trouble, or know that you are safe so that we can concentrate our resources on helping those in need".
In the most recent crisis, Monday's earthquake in the Chinese province of Sichuan, nineteen Britons are still missing. So, overall, this website is a very good development for British tourists travelling around the world.
