New Zealand tourism increases

A great increase is seen in the tourists staying in night in the commercial accommodations. In June with 1.8 million, 6% increase is seen in comparison to June 2006 in the visitors' nights. The Statistics New Zealand tells that this fashion of the visitors' nights geared up from January 2006.

Auckland saw the maximum hike in June with 27,000 or 8% visitors' nights in comparison to that of June 2006. Following him was Canterbury with 23,000 or 9% whereas Waikato was the only one with little downfall.

Motels saw the maximum hike for lodging types with 32,000 or 5% visitors' nights in comparison to June 2006.

Then came the backpackers/hostels, rising up to 28,000 or 11%. Among the five lodging types, only the hosted lodging fell down, that too just with a half percent.

Since last one year, the total visitors' nights had increased by 4 percent up to 32.5 million.

Auckland saw the maximum rise of 5 percent or 255,000 on yearly basis. Next came Wellington with 7 percent or 177,000 and Bay of Plenty with 158,000 or 5 per cent.
 
Hotels saw the maximum yearly growth in the types of lodging with an increase of 365,000 visitor nights, it is a 4 percent increase.

The motels followed them with 344,000 or 3 percent for a year, and then was caravan parks/camping grounds with 268,000 or 4 per cent.
