Using ntl:Telewest Business for this purpose, easyJet is providing 300 digital lines to link four sites at Luton Airport, which will network the datacenters of the company. The project occurs as the latest step in the up gradation programme of the airline to improve the infrastructure of its networks following the recent installation of a local area network and IP telephony system at the brand new corporate HQ located at the airport.
easyJet will employ the 300 ISDN lines to establish a 'single communications environment' that will offer data, voice and internet services across four sites of the airport. The connection will provide an integrated seamless service enabling the users to forward information besides making calls simultaneously. The process is also expected to provide a highly cost effective way for the airline to connect workgroups functioning from other locations.
The network infrastructure up gradation process is a timely move, when a 60% increase in traffic to its website was anticipated last month. Most notably, easyJet has flied around 3 million passengers in January alone, besides accepting bookings for journeys up until October.
easyJet's IT manager Bill Codd remarked, "Approximately 98% of all our sales are via our website, so it's vital that we have the right communications infrastructure in place to be able to meet demand. The network that ntl:Telewest Business has built for us means that we are always in a position to capitalise on customer interest no matter how big the numbers."
