In a highly interesting move, Airbus A380, the largest passenger aircraft on the globe is to make a stopover at Manchester Airport this weekend. This move comes as a part of a series of flights around the northwest. The massive airliner is all set to perform a standard approach at 1.20pm on this Saturday, the 12th July. At this moment, crowds of people are expected to descend on the northern gateway to have a sight of this most awesome landing. Notably, this is a double decker plane with a total capacity of 853 passengers. Following this event, the aircraft will fly to Liverpool by way of paying a tribute to this city heralding its state as the European Capital of Culture 2008.
It is useful to note that Manchester's T1 & T3 car parks are well positioned to enable the audience get the best possible views of the behemoth landing. For Liverpudlians, the best vantage points are said to be the Liver Building and the New Brighton promenade.
According to the statement made by a spokesman for Airbus to the Liverpool Echo, the visit comes as a 'thank you' of sorts to appreciate the thousands of Merseyside employees who involved themselves in making the A380.
He noted, "With many of its 7,000-strong workforce, plus suppliers and their friends and family being resident on the Wirral and in the Liverpool and Manchester areas, this tour will be something of a homecoming for the A380."
