London Luton airport is to impose a fee of £1 on travellers who want to make use of a luggage trolley, according to the reports by the Mirror.
And, unlike the money that the customers are depositing as a security for using trolleys in a supermarket which they will get back after returning the trolley, passengers would not get their money back at the airport.
The new trolleys will be brought in on the 26th of July at London Luton airport, which is serving more than ten million travellers per year.
A similar scheme was introduced at Bristol airport previously this year. Perhaps in the coming future, more airports would also think to impose this fee on the travellers.
The Air Transport Users Council, Britain's air traveller watchdog, criticised the introduction of new fee at the airport and ridiculed the move by London Luton Airport.
James Fremantle, a spokesman for the council said, "This is becoming ridiculous.
Airports and airlines are charging for everything these days. Elderly people might do themselves a nasty injury if they don't want to pay this fee. This is a step too far - and we would hope other airports do not follow suit".
A spokeswoman for the London Luton airport said, "We are bringing in these charges to improve facilities for passengers".
Bristol Airport said, "The popularity of wheeled suitcases is reducing the demand for trolleys. Fewer than five percent of passengers now use them".
