KD Avia, the fast growing Russian carrier, is celebrating the first anniversary of its first service into the United Kingdom by launching a new route to the city of Yekaterinburg-a main stop on the world famous Trans-Siberian Railway.
Additionally, the carrier, which presently flies an all Boeing fleet of 737-400 planes, has placed an order with the aircraft manufacturer Airbus for 25 Airbuses 319 planes.
The Russian carrier's inaugural flight to the UK landed at Gatwick Airport on the 16th of June 2007. It now operates a daily scheduled flight to its hub at Kaliningrad with easy onward links to 12 Russian cities.
The carrier's Kaliningrad hub links 15 European cities, including London Gatwick, with Moscow, Chelyabinsk, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Ufa, Samara, Rostov, Omsk, Perm, Volgograd and Kazan, as well as Astana in Kazakhstan and now Yekaterinburg.
KD Avia's new fleet of Airbus A319 planes will have a spacious and comfortable seating arrangement. The new flying machine will be used to operate the carrier's extended network of routes-both domestic and international-out of Kaliningrad.
Sergey Grishchenko, Chairman of the Board of Directors of KD Avia, said, "We are glad to have selected the Airbus A319 for our medium range fleet expansion. This aircraft meets all our requirements in terms of fuel efficiency and passenger comfort and is the best solution for us.
The A319 will contribute to the strengthening of Kaliningrad's position as an important Russian transit hub and at the same time will enable us to further develop our route network".
