Readers of The Guardian, The Observer and The Guardian Unlimited website have awarded the low-cost airline, Jet2.com with the title of Best Short Haul Airline. It is for the second running year that the airline has been awarded with this recognition. The announcement of the awards was made at an awards function in Seville.
The carrier fought off hard competition from a number of other carriers offering services on the European routes. The second position was won by the Dutch carrier KLM and bmi was got the third position.
Jet2.com managing director, Ian Doubtfire, said, "This really is a fantastic achievement for our airline, all the more special because it is voted for by the British public on key factors such as customer service and inflight experience".
Doubtfire further said, "It demonstrates that low cost does not have to mean cutting corners on the things that mean the most to air travellers, i.e., customer service and punctuality, not just for a short period, but consistently and that's why we're still on top for the second year running".
"We could not have won this award without the continued hard work, dedication and attention to detail from our staff, it's the people that make an airline and we dedicate this prestigious award to all 1,500 of them", Doubtfire added.
Jet2.com also received the same award a year ago, though it has been alone in operation for 4 years after it started its services from its Leeds Bradford Airport base.
