Rating the best regions of UK for retail therapy, a new research report from Yellow Pages observes that outside London, the most satisfying thing is Christmas shopping in Glasgow.
It is interesting to note that earlier to this research, the Academy of Urbanism named Glasgow's Buchanan Street as the finest shopping street of the UK, even ahead of O'Connell Street in Dublin and Regent Street of London.
The reports follow a survey involving over 2,000 people across Britain pertaining to their shopping habits. The survey ascertained the crucial aspects like gift shops and farmers' markets that are necessary to create a perfect Christmas.
Subsequent to the survey, the data analysts of Yellow Pages ranked the preferences of people and matched them against a number of shops available in each area directory using a rating system.
This "Christmas Shopping Formula" rated the top ten locations for the ultimate 2007 Christmas shopping experience in the following sequence: Glasgow, Exeter, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Brighton, Cardiff, Norwich, Chester, Preston and Bristol.
Chief Executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, Scott Taylor remarked, "These two accolades underline Glasgow's undisputed status as the top retail centre in Britain outside London. That's the beauty of shopping in Glasgow. We have giant malls, high street stores, designer boutiques and specialist outlets, all in a compact walkable space, made all the more special at Christmas time by a feast of festive events."
