AirAsia X, the new low-fares long-haul carrier, says that it has been positively weighed down with the strong demand from passengers after the introduction of its new route to Perth, Australia.
The carrier will start operating services on its new route from the month of November this year. The new route will complement the airline's existing link to the Gold Coast, already running at 85 per cent capacity.
The new route be served with 6 direct flights per week from Kuala Lumpur to Perth and the tickets for the new service will start from only AUD $99.
The introduction of the carrier's new route has been met with equally strong demand with a 50-50 division between travelers based in Australia and Malaysia: bookings have been made for around 12,000 seats in just ten hours after the start of on-line booking.
Azran Oman-Rani, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia X, said, "The intense online traffic within the first hour of the route being available to book on-line exceeded our expectations and confirmed the pent up demand for this under-serviced route.
The huge response shows the strength of our brand in the competitive Australian market and the attractiveness of our low-cost offering".
AirAsia X's new route to Perth will be its 3rd international destination since the launch of the airline in the month of November 2007.
At present, AirAsia X operates 5 weekly flights to Hangzhou, China and 4 weekly flights to the Gold Coast, Australia.
