With a 'topping out' ceremony, Glasgow Airport has commended an important phase in the construction of its new terminal (a £30 million project).
Balfour Beatty, the main contractors of the terminal, joined officials from both BAA Glasgow and Renfrewshire Council to celebrate the accomplishment of the big project: Skyhub, an extension of 400 square metre.
To commemorate the event, there was a small branch tied to the top of the structure, while Gordon Dewar, the managing director of the airport, made use of a silver trowel to level the final section of concrete.
Skyhub, the new extension will be opened to the general public on the 21st of October. It will feature a new purpose-formed security search space to cut waiting times. What's more, it will also provide new lounges, shops, bars and restaurants. So, this would be a sort of new place for passengers using Glasgow Airport to be and enjoy their stay before the board the flights.
Mr. Gordon Dewar said, "Skyhub is the first of many major investments planned at Glasgow Airport, including the new rail link and a second international pier".
He further said, "By 2014, when Glasgow hosts the Commonwealth Games, the airport will be substantially transformed, boasting world class surface access links and a modern, welcoming environment".
"However, passengers won't have to wait until 2014 to see the benefits of our investment. There are now just 200 days until skyhub opens its doors to passengers", added Mr. Dewar.
