The biggest flower tapestry of the UK has been designed for a wonderful show in a Suffolk market town. In the Abbey Gardens, Bury St Edmunds, the largest floral carpet measuring 750 square metres was created using an unbelievable 350,000 begonia flower heads.
The volunteers from the Lions Club of Stowmarket and District are hoping that the Old MacDonald themed show will generate a sum of thousands of pounds for the charity.
The flowers used in the carpet are leftovers from the gardening businesses in Belgium. These were collected on Wednesday night to bring over to Suffolk.
Over one hundred people, including those having a relation to the club, were involved in the massive arrangement operation.
David Cleary, the carpet organizer, said, "The weather hasn't helped but we aren't letting it bother us. We are still hopeful of beating last year's fundraising total of £18,000 but we could do with some sunny weather to get the visitors in".
The spectacular display in the famous gardens will be open for visitors from 9am until dark for three days - today, tomorrow and Sunday.
A full colour programme has also been introduced that includes all the details of the begonia flower tapestry show. A plenty of facts about the articles and flowers from this year's selected charities and the National Begonia Society have also been included in this.
The programme is priced at £2.50. It allows the visitors to enter the viewing block and raised platform, offering a great view of the floral artwork.
