Expedia.co.uk, the UK"s largest online travel agent, has identified Edinburgh as one of the top ten rated destinations in the world.
Every week Expedia gathers feedback from travellers who"ve just returned from their holidays. As part of this feedback, customers are asked to rate the destination they visited on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is poor and 10 is excellent.
Expedia customers rated Scotland"s capital as one of the best alongside the likes of New York, Sydney, Barcelona, Cape Town and Singapore, which were also listed in the top ten rated destinations. Edinburgh was the only UK destination to feature in the top ten.
Commenting on being in the top ten of the best rated destinations, by Expedia.co.uk customers, Ailsa Falconer, Project Manager of Edinburgh Inspiring Capital, said: "To be in the company of such a prestigious group of cities is gratifying and being the only UK city in the top ten is excellent! Being thought of so highly by travelers is great news for the city.
The City of Edinburgh Council"s Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Tourism, Cllr Donald Anderson added: "This is another welcome accolade for the city and further confirmation of Edinburgh"s place as one of the world"s top tourist destinations."
Among traveler"s views and tips, the city was described as exciting and historical and visits to Mary King"s Close, Edinburgh Castle and The Royal Yacht Britannia were highly recommended.
The top ten destinations as rated by Expedia customers were; New York; Venice; Sydney; Cape Town; Tokyo; Barcelona; Rome; San Francisco; Edinburgh; and Singapore.
