easyJet 'to improve efficiency and squeeze costs'
European Airlines

Europe's fourth largest carrier easyJet, will start making use of Lufthansa Systems Lido Operations Centre (Lido OC) to plan all its service routings from the month of October this year.

With the Lido OC flight planning solution, the carrier will be able to optimise its flight planning, minimise fuel consumption and bring considerable cost-savings, according to a spokesman. This is a great step towards implementing technology for the saving of resources and fuel by the airlines and it will help them tremendously.

The carrier's Operations Director, Cor Vrieswijk, said, "The recent surges in oil prices are having a dramatic effect on European aviation. As a result easyJet are taking a range of measures to reduce our costs and improve fuel efficiency".

Vrieswijk further said, 'We chose Lido OC because it will help us optimise the routes operated by our modern, economical fleet and create an efficient, dynamic flight planning processes, which will reduce costs.

The system is highly automated, which helps our dispatchers work more efficiently and frees up resources for continued growth. Efficient processes and the optimal use of resources are the core of our successful business model".

The carrier is taking in this new flight planning solution as part of its efficiency programme which also incorporates improvements to crewing efficiencies, accelerated fleet rationalisation, a focus on cutting overheads and comes after the carrier's recent launching of the new CFM engines which will cut fuel consumption and NOx and carbon dioxide emissions.
