easyJet's ground handing company's staff members are threatening to go on strike over a pay issue. The members of the staff having responsibility to pass the aircrafts of the company fit to fly from Luton Airport, are polling for the strike decision which could result in destruction of the plans of a large number of people jetting off in the countdown to Christmas.
Bearers at Big Orange Handling, the firm owned by easyJet and Menzies Aviation, which is providing ground services for the carrier, said that they are undervalued and they are not getting enough salary, and they demand balance with other fellows.
Dispatchers have equal responsibilities as the pilots in checking if a aircraft is worthy enough to be flown in the sky. All the 25 dispatchers get £18,100 per annum as their basic salary but they are demanding an additional £1,000 so that they could be in line with their group leaders.
Unite spokesman, John Street, said, "We have tried to resolve this situation through negotiation as the total amount of money is hardly going to break the bank. But for some reason the employer either will not or cannot see the logic or justice of the case".
In case the strike action is taken by the staff, it could take outbound services to a break-off within a twenty-eight day time from the mid November.
A spokesman for Big Orange said, "We have a difference of opinion but we're actively talking to them and we're confident that a solution will be found".
