Plans that would make out the outlining of four wind turbines have been put forward by East Midlands Airport. The airport is looking to increase the amount of energy it is using from the renewable sources.
The schemes would examine each wind turbine, measuring 31.5 metre in height and situated in a protected place distant from the landing strip and other critical divisions of the airport.
The four wind turbines would also account for 10% of the energy use of the airport and will also be come out as an important decision towards making the East Midlands Airport carbon neutral by 2012.
"In addition to our plans to install turbines, we have increased the proportion of our energy that comes from renewable sources this year to 20 per cent", said Penny Coates, managing director of East Midlands Airport.
Coates added, "We have already introduced a number of new environmental measures such as our on site recycling facility and our 'green' pier. The turbines will be a welcome addition to our suite of environmental measures and I hope that this initiative is something which the community and indeed the East Midlands region can feel proud of".
To have talks with the residents, senior managers of the airport will attend local council meetings over the weeks ahead.
They have applied to North West Leicestershire District Council for an approval for the installation of the turbines, and if got the permission, it is expected that the turbines will start working by spring next year.
