Recently, EasyJet has opened its new base at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. Notably, this increases the total number of the airline's bases to 19. The airline has outlined its target to serve around 12 million passengers by 2011. This new move forms part of the airline's €600m investment in the region over a four-year-period and will see the increase of easyJet's flights in France to 20 from six.
The other base of the airline at France will be at Orly Aiport, located at the south of Paris. From these two bases at the French capital, easyJet will operate over 28 routes to domestic, European and North African destinations, targeting to serve about four million passengers during this year alone.
easyJet's chief executive Andy Harrison observed, "Today's event is a vital first step in our major investment that will see us double our presence in France by 2011 as we seek to bring the benefits of easyJet to France's air travellers and its wider society. We will be employing French people and flying French passengers from France's major airports on aircraft from Toulouse-based Airbus. No wonder we consider ourselves as the best French alternative to Air France."
Once the new base is opened, the airline has plans to introduce more routes. Over and above, 4th April will see the airline opening its third base in Lyton – France, with easyJet becoming the first low-fares airline to offer French domestic services outside Paris.
