Recently, Bmi has decided to lease two aircrafts to enhance the frequency and capacity of a good number of its services departing from London Heathrow. The introduction of these aircrafts in the fleet of the airline is expected to benefit the passengers in several ways.
With the airline leasing two Boeing 757-200s, from 1st May, the airline will be offering a brand new direct service to the Kazakhstan city of Almaty. This move will remarkably reduce the present journey time to this location by two hours.
With effect from the same date, the airline will also operate direct services to the capital of Sierra Leone, Freetown, with the services in the route increasing to four departures a week. Over and above, the journey time is also reduced by one hour.
The new additions will also enable increased capacity on bmi's new direct service flying between Heathrow and Tel Aviv, scheduled from 1st March with more number of seats and services going up to six-times a week. The leasing of new Boeing 727s is also expected to improve the number of daily services and seat numbers from the London airport to Tehran, besides Ekaterinburg and Yerevan.
The airline's chief executive, Nigel Turner, remarked, "We strongly believe that in order to continue the development of the mid haul network, now is the time to upgrade capacity and the aircraft range on certain routes that will clearly benefit from non-stop services."
