Birmingham Airport is spending about £2 million to improve its car parking facility in an attempt to avoid congestion as drivers drop off travellers.
The car parking improvements, which centre on a drop and go space close to the airport's Terminals 1 and 2 for dropping off passengers, have been tailored to keep traffic moving.
The airport had to make alterations to what was the outdoor short-stay car parking space after it was ordered to stop drivers making use of the traditional laid-down tracks outside its terminals 1 and 2, following the unsuccessful attack at Glasgow Airport in the month of June last year.
The hub's short-stay car parking areas have now turned into a permanent drop and go places, available for just £1 to park for twenty minutes and an additional £3 fee for every fifteen minutes thereafter.
The Head of Development at Birmingham Airport, Richard Gill, said that the first stage of the adaptations would be concluded by the end of that week and would bring in a further 79 spaces and special areas for mini-buses and drivers with disabilities. Additionally, all of the facility's parking areas had also been redesigned to flow at angles in an attempt to make it easier for travellers to come and go.
The drivers picking up travellers are told to take advantage of the multi-storey car parking facility, which costs just £1 to park for 30 minutes and just £3.30 for an hour.
