Birmingham Airport begins terminal overhaul
Destinations

Birmingham International Airport (BIA) has begun work on a £45 million development for Terminal one (T1).

When completed, the modern and bright facility, called the International Pier, will be a three storeys and 240 metre long structure. This would turn the air travel experience of passengers using Birmingham International Airport into a great one as they would be able to enjoy finest qualities of features that would be available to them at the airport.

The new facility will offer air-bridged plane parking for seven wide-bodied flying machines as well as space for thirteen smaller planes, and will also feature a number of new lounges for passengers. So, the development will mean that the airport would bear a new outlook on technical grounds and also for the facilities provided to the passengers.

While speaking after a function to mark the initiation of the expansion project, the airport operations director, Mr. Will Heynes said that the new development would ensure Birmingham International Airport remained viable in the times ahead.

Mr. Heynes said, "This investment will provide the airport with facilities to enable it to meet the growing demand for international services to global destinations from Birmingham. Once complete, the Pier will provide a high quality gateway into the Midlands for foreign visitors".

He further said that the design of the new facility will also permit it to provide enough space for next-generation flying machines such as Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A350.
