Avis Budget Group adds to hybrid fleet
UK Travel

New hybrids are to turn up at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, as the Avis Budget Group announced last week that it is adding twenty-five Toyota Prius hybrid cars to its fleet by the month of July this year.

The company's new vehicles are powered by an electric battery when at slower speeds and by a gasoline engine when these cars touch higher speeds. The popularity of hybrids is increasing as the price of gas continues to rise.

As the Avis and Budget brands are sharing a single fleet of vehicles, clients are able to hire a hybrid from either firm: the group has a hybrid fleet of a total of 2,500 vehicles.

The rental companies generally charge around $15 to $20 more for a hybrid vehicle as compared with a non-hybrid one of a similar size.

The Dollar, Hertz, National and Enterprise rental car firms' already offering option of hybrids at Dallas-Fort Worth and at various other places across North Texas.

At first, the Avis Budget Group added hybrids in the west and east coast markets and later in Chicago.

According to a spokesman for the company, the Dallas-Fort Worth airport was selected as the next marketplace as it is located in the central part of the country.

"We know the demand is there from any major travel destination. We knew the utilization would be there as soon as we could get the vehicles into the fleet", the spokesman said.
