With a sponsorship from AquaCity Resort, owned by the British government, Slovakia, Europe's popular environmental friendly holiday destination is to host the globe's first ever carbon neutral rally this weekend on Friday, 31st August and Saturday, 1st September.
Incidentally, during the past seven years, this is the first time when a sport is allowed on the protected terrains of High Tetras. Setting the Slovak Rally Championship on ethical grounds, AquaCity resort has contributed the surplus of its carbon savings to this event to offset carbon emissions during the event. Environment friendly vehicles, conventionally powered hotels, and the green conference complex are the highlights of the event.
Mr. Jan Telensky, the owner and CEO, commented "AquaCity is virtually self-powered, using geothermal water and solar power, saving around 27 tonnes of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere each day. AquaCity was built to show the world that being green can still be affordable, enjoyable and luxurious. We're notionally donating our carbon saving to the `Tempus Rally' for the duration of the event to demonstrate that being green doesn't have to totally take the enjoyment out of life. Even an apparently non-eco event like a rally could still take place if major carbon savings were to be made in other areas, such as we do every day at AquaCity. By working closely with AquaCity, it's not just the drivers who will be winners at the end of August, it's the planet too".
