A car-free Sunday on 23 September has been announced by the Amsterdam Tourism & Convention Board.
"Travel healthy in a clean city" is the motto for the car free day announced by the Amsterdam Tourism & Convention Board in the capital.
On the scheduled day, no car will be allowed to enter the area within the A10 ring road from 9 am to 5 pm. However, the traffic will have the permission to leave and the car traffic will be allowed in the Zeeburg region.
The City of Amsterdam is hopeful that the residents will get inspiration from the event and will be encouraged to walk and cycle more.
It is also hoped that it will improve the public transport use and the Park & Ride service inside the city. In the hindsight, it is also a very good move for environment and carbon offsetting. Reducing the usage of cars by inspiring the people to use bicycles is a very good move for green tourism. It is one of main feature of any ecotourism drive.
The local people will also get inspiration to organise such events and activities.
The public transport and taxi service in the capital will remain in working order on the car free day.
The Hague, Rotterdam, Leiden and Eindhoven are also making their contributions in the drive and a similar car free day will be organised by each of them.
