In line with the progressive measures to combat the soaring oil prices, Aer Lingus, the Irish carrier has decided to increase its fuel surcharge over a number of routes where its long-haul services are operated to various destinations to the US.
As per the statement made by the officials for the airline, the surcharges will be applicable with effect from 30th July on flights serving destinations including Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando and San Francisco. On the East Coast services that are considered as shorter sectors, the fees will remain the same. The list of such destinations includes Boston, New York and Washington's Dulles Airport.
Enda Corneille, the director of Aer Lingus corporate affairs noted, "The overall effect of the price of fuel continues to be extremely challenging for the airline industry, despite some price fluctuations over the last number of days. Jet fuel spot prices have increased over 50 per cent since the beginning of the year, and this continues to have a significant impact on our long haul operations. We will continue to keep the situation under review."
The fuel surcharges that are being introduced recently apply on long-haul US flights operated to and from Ireland and the increase in this regard ranges from 85 to 110 per sector. However, this depends on the destination whether the flight serves Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando or San Francisco. However, Aer Lingus is not making the surcharge increases to shorter-haul east coast service.
