Be in an office or on an industry floor, everyone can participate in a drive to adopt easy ways for reducing carbon emissions, lowering the load on the environment and saving a good amount of money.
The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers is running this year's "100 days of Carbon Clean Up" and has created a web site www.100days.co.uk.
On joining the drive, every organization will receive an electronic action pack that contains guidelines to carbon saving as well as stickers and posters for the promotion of carbon saving.
This year, the drive is particularly aimed at encouraging easy no and low cost measures for reducing carbon.
Some of these include: switching off the lights overnight in a vacated meeting hall can save about 440kg of CO2 over a year while switching off a photocopier at weekends and night can save about 20kg of CO2 over a period of one month.
Chargers and power supplies in offices can also help in energy savings. By ensuring that these are unplugged when not in use can save up to 10 per cent on energy bills and if twenty individuals determine to plug in their chargers at a time when they want to charge their phones, it will result in a saving of 1 tonne of CO2 a year.
Recycling of 1 tonne of paper will save 15 trees, 31,320 gallons of water, 2.5 barrels of oil and 27kg of air pollutants.
