Part of the Marquesas islands, Hiva Ova is situated around fifteen-hundred kilometres away from Tahiti and no more than a handful, six in total, are occupied in reality.

According to travel industry experts, all of these land masses including Hiva Ova can be an ideal holiday destination choice for holidaymakers interested in hiking activities, as well as other activities such as climbing, biking and surfing.

Manchester - New York route suffers as BA withdraws
European Airlines | British Airways

British Airlines has announced its decision to roll back its daily services between Manchester Airport and New York coming into effect during this October. However, the three US airlines operating their flights in the route including Continental, American Airlines and Delta have confirmed that they have no plans at present to increase the seat capacity in their carriers.

Ten days back, BA announced its decision to terminate its services in the said route on account of poor yields and lack of premium passengers. However, from the point of view of Richard Leigh, the popular analyst from RDC aviation, the principal reason for the demise of this service is just a price war.

Observing the great competition mounting in the route due to several reasons, the analyst observed, "In the last couple of years, Continental added an extra daily flight to New York from Manchester and Delta arrived with a daily JFK service using a reasonably large B767-400 aircraft. Airlines had to lower prices to stimulate demand and steal market share. The route became pretty competitive."

In-flight phones crash
UK Travel | Flights

The Sunday Times reports that when the in-flight mobile telephone services were let to trials and test runs recently, the results were not so encouraging. Giving a lead to the show, on 1st April, Air France ventured to put this innovative technology for trial run in its carriers. Experts point out that a greater part of the feedback revolves around irregularities in services and the poor quality of the connections.

Analysing the cause of the difficulties in this venture, it is noted that the nature of the network employed was not up to the mark due to the fact that all the calls were routed through a satellite before they were transmitted to the receptors on the ground. However, when the process charged them £2.40 per minute, the customers of Air France were in fact expecting much more from this service.

Complaining about the service to the Sunday Times, one of the customers observed, "It's like calling from an underground car park." One another passenger remarked that the voice heard from the other end resembled that of a small robot.

Silverjet steps in to help passengers as Eos collapses
UK Travel | Flights

Announcing its strategic decision recently, Silverjet has come forward to offer alternative arrangements to benefit the passengers affected, as EOS, its former competitor collapses.

Facing a heavy loss, Eos, all-business class carrier declared that it had gone bankrupt on 27th April 2008. The airline noted that before the move, it had tried to raise $50 million (£25 million) from its investors to make up for the losses, which did not succeed. Ultimately, when this lost hope turned futile, the airline had no other go than declaring its bankruptcy.

The event has left hundreds of passengers in dismay, as they are not able to make use of the London Stansted - New York JFK connections. Entering the scene at this point, Silverjet has come forward to help out all those passengers who are trapped now by offering to transport them for the same prices of the original fares they incurred with Eos.

US airport fingerprint plan on attack
UK Travel | Flights

As the new security plans by the US government are to unfold during next year, the officials told that starting from January, all non-US citizens are required to produce their fingerprints as they enter or leave the country. This announcement gives way to expecting a greater risk of long queues, missed connections and delayed departures.

The US Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff observed that this proposal is a quantum leap in America's border security. On the other hand, the International Air Transport Association (IATA), representing over 240 airlines worldwide, has severely opposed the plan. IATA observed that implementing the process will require its workers to record the fingerprints of departing passengers, only leading the situation to turn them into unpaid and untrained immigration officers.

Regional vice-president of IATA Doug Lavin noted, "The impact on travel will be huge and flights to the UK are the best example of our concerns. We anticipate it will take an additional minute or so to fingerprint each person. Take a large aircraft of 300 people heading for London: that's an extra 300 minutes. We'll see flights delayed, they'll arrive late into Heathrow, so the next outbound flight will also be delayed. It's not just the US that will be affected - it will have a ripple effect everywhere."

Redevelopment at Carlisle Airport approved
UK Travel | Flights

After the airport owner Andrew Tinkler gets the revised list of planning conditions approved by the council, the redevelopment plans at the Carlisle Airport are getting ready to take off.

The £35 million proposal launched a scheme for building a new runway, hangars, terminal, warehousing and offices. Till recently, the launch of this scheme was under serious doubt as earlier this month Mr Tinkler stormed out of a meeting over conditions connected to planning approval. It was also expected that Eddie Stobart Group planning to move its HQ from Kingstown to the airport might prefer going to Widnes instead of taking out not less than 175 jobs from Cumbria.

Last week's decision has cast all these fears aside. However, if a public enquiry is called for, then the Government Office North West might still effectively reject the scheme.

Ideally located in the South West France's Midi-Pyrenees region, St Sauveur is a beautiful and tiny village is all set to invite the first set of guests to be brought by Collett's Mountain Holidays during late May.

Tom Collett, founder and Managing Director of the company remarked, "The mountains in this region are often described as 'magical'. I am delighted and excited that our new venture has generated so much interest, with bookings well ahead of budget. The successful Collett's Mountain Holidays' formula - finely honed in the Italian Dolomites-South Tyrol over the last 10 years - applies throughout but the geography of the Pyrenees means that this holiday product is primarily for walkers, who relish the challenge of a series of exhilarating day walks in wild and remote mountain terrain".

In addition to the captivating magical charm of the mountains at Luz, yet another interesting factor is the region's close proximity to Lourdes. Lourdes is located at about 30 minutes drive by road from Luz and is preparing itself to host the vibrant celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the 18 Apparitions of the Virgin Mary to St Bernadette. Since then, several miracles have been reported in this place.
