Durham airport gets renovation
UK Travel | Other News |

An attempt has been made providing an explicit "drop off-pick up" parking area for drivers at the airport to make things easier for passengers by Durham Tees Valley Airport. Drivers will not be charged for using the drop off-pick up area for up to 10 minutes under the new provisions. As compared with the previous charge, it has been reduced to £1 for ten to 30 minutes, and £3 for between 30 and 60 minutes.

"Over recent months there have been quite a lot of changes to the parking arrangements at the airport and one of our main objectives was to provide an area specifically for vehicles only wanting to stay for a short period, for example to either drop off passengers or pick them up from incoming flights", said, Hugh Lang, managing director of the airport.

He added, "The new changes are clearly signed but inevitably there has been some degree of confusion today which I hope will quickly be resolved as people get used to the new system. I would simply ask anyone coming to the airport to make sure they look carefully for the signs indicating where they should go, to either the drop off-pick up or long-stay facilities".

Extreme weather is a threat to UK's natural tourists places
UK Travel | Other News |

According to latest analysis looking at the dangers shown by global warming, some of the most impressive areas of natural attractiveness in Britain are at risk from the fires just like that led to devastation in Greece this summer, and spoiling the whole of tourism season.

According to firefighters the number of forest, heath and grass fires in the UK has gone up by 60 per cent in twenty years as longer, close summers have produced tinder-dry situations. Contrarily, at the time of humid summers, an increase risk of flooding has been another major reason for firefighters' worry. Figures reveal that the average land temperature has gone up by 1C since the nineteenth century.

the Fire Brigades Union is now saying that with its associates being told to deal with outdoor fires and flooding, their capacity to handle burning structures is depressed, which could bring risk to lives.

Scots should join in green tourism race
Green Travel

VisitScotland chairman Peter Lederer said that Scotland have to move fast if it does not want to lose out on the multibillion-pound stream of green tourism all around the world.

As eco-tourism is the standard now, Lederer warned that the nation faces losing its present lead in this sphere to other developing destinations including New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, as well as developing eco-destinations like Costa Rica, Ecuador and the Antarctic.

At a conference organised by the Green Tourism Business Scheme last week, Lederer warned representatives from different UK regional business owners and tourism bodies, saying, "We need to move now if we are to take the lead and not get left behind, before green business practices and green marketing becomes the norm".

Use of IT to reduce carbon footprints
Green Travel

The public sector has been called for by the Cabinet Office minister Gillian Merron to use information technology (IT) in order to cut carbon emissions. According to Ms Merron, the government departments could also benefit in a similar manner as did the large corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises, who have adopted technologies including VoIP telephony.

This can help in cutting carbon emissions down as fewer people have to go to their offices for work because they are able to work just as well from home itself, and thus reduce their carbon footprints. The employees can even use the secure IP PBX or data network of the company for doing their work, if their employer has implemented a unified communications (UC) solution.

As a large numbers of people are employed by the government, Merron said that if such schemes were given the green light, there could be huge savings on carbon produced; and called for suggestion for the perfect implementation of such technologies. If implemented, this can turn to be really a big one!
