Buying with British Airways is easy

Passengers can now buy British Airways tickets by just clicking on mouse, as the carrier has started the facility on www.ba.com.

Giving details to the media, the Area Commercial Manager, Amanda Moss, said that the new facility would also present the customers an option to check in and print their boarding passes online.

Moss said, "The facility to purchase the ticket online would be available till the time the check-in counter opens at the airport. So, technically speaking, if the flight is light, then a passenger may be able to get a real inexpensive ticket".

 
   
 

   
Lufthansa to add new flights in its winter season

By addition new destinations, Lufthansa is continuing to expand its services. With the start of the 2007-2008 winter timetable, the global route network of the carrier will encompass 188 destinations in 79 nations. Three new routes are added: to Orlando, Lahore and Karachi.

In a bid to maintain a stable schedule throughout the year, many of the new services that were started this summer will remain operational during the forthcoming winter season.

The new timetable for the winter season is applicable from 28th October 2007 to 29th March 2008.

SAS to launch Copenhagen-Dubai flights

Non-stop service between Copenhagen and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates will be commenced on October 31 by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), the first package to Dubai from Scandinavia.

Three days a week flight will be operated – Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday-with suitable connections to and from Seattle. Dubai is one of the world's recognized emerging cities, and in recent years has established itself as a major trade and tourist destination.

"SAS passengers traveling from Seattle can connect easily to our new Dubai service at Copenhagen Airport, which was ranked as Europe's best airport in 2006 by Airport Council International", said, SAS V.P The Americans Sveneric Persson.

ABTA launches carbon offsetting programme

For providing travellers information on how to cut their carbon emissions, an initiative has been launched by the travel industry.

The initiative, 'Reduce My Footprint' gives consumers and businesses an opportunity to offset their carbon emissions produced by car use and air travel.

The programme is led by ABTA, and is using a carbon calculator figure out the carbon footprint of an individual and they can then select the amount they want to contribute towards offsetting and various energy schemes.

Climate change march by activists enters London

Winding-up the 1,000 mile 'Cut the Carbon' march from Northern Ireland to London, a party of Christian Aid activists enter in the capital this weekend. The march has taken the climate change concern to the doorsteps of public and to businesses and MPs across the nation.

The march, constituting a team of 18 individuals from the UK and the developing world left Bangor in Northern Ireland on 14 July, arrives in central London this Monday. The march will be given a warm welcome to the capital by senior Bishops and then the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone.

A delegation from the group will go to Downing Street with shoelaces which were collected by the marchers from along their march route from the people who had swapped them for Christian Aid Cut the Carbon shoelaces to show their support for the concern.

 
   
 

   
The Edinburgh Airport Rail Link project disapproved

The Edinburgh Airport Rail Link (EARL) will not proceed with its selected project, declared the SNP administration. The £650 million link plan that was expected to connect the airport to the city centre and 60 railway stations, have been devolved in support of recuperating other areas of transport.

The Edinburgh and East Coast would have been sidetracked to Glasgow rail lines through the airport via an underground tunnel by EARL.

It is hoped that an additional railway station will necessarily be built at Gogar in an offer to improve links to the airport. However, no final decision has been taken to get this project completed. KLM to start new flights to Amsterdam

Officials from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport announced on Thursday that a new carrier will be flying into the airport in the near future. The new airline will offer the region's first direct link to Amsterdam.

Starting from March, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will start its operation from DFW making the airport its 12th destination in North America. This is a welcome news for travellers who have used the services of KLM before, and would like to use it again for the route of Amsterdam.

KLM to increase fuel surcharge

On Tuesday, French flag airline Air France, KLM of the Netherlands and Swiss announced that they would raise the prices of tickets due to rising fuel prices. The airlines would be the next one in line after Lufthansa increased the surcharge on its fuel consumption.

Both Air France and KLM, which are connected, made announcements separately that the ticket price would be raised by €1 on each leg of round-trip short and medium haul flights and by €5 on each leg of round-trip long-distance flights due to rising prices of fuel.

In a statement, Air France stated that the increase in fuel surcharges had been taken because of an increased level of oil costs. It also said that the increase in fuel surcharge would be taken back after the cost of oil stabilises durably below $75,.

The climate cafe is part of 'Rising to the Challenge' campaign of the county. The county's campaign is aimed at raising awareness about the forecasted impact of climate change in Somerset.

At the cafe on Magdalen Street, solar-powered notebooks with carbon calculators have been installed. It can be termed as a very good event organised by the café, and it would initiate a lot of awareness about the concept of carbon footprints and climate change among the local people. The concept of carbon footprints is directly related to travel and tourism also, and being the hot topics of travel industry, this would a good time to learn something about it also. Carbon coaches are on hand for giving advice on energy saving and cutting carbon dioxide emissions.

EasyJet to start Barcelona flights

Low-fares airline Easyjet will be starting a new route from East Midlands airport to Barcelona from this December. From 7th December, the airline will operate its services four times a week and the prices will be starting from £30.98 return including all the taxes.

The new route, which will be the only direct flight from East Midlands to the Spanish city, comes after the announcement of air services to the capital of Majorca, the city of Palma, which will be starting in the month of February next year from the airport.

The airline is hopeful that around 70,000 passengers will take advantage of the Barcelona low cost services over the first year.

With the action of a local set to draw travellers from the German city, Lufthansa is to start a fresh service between Newquay and Dusseldorf. A weekly service is set to begin in June next year, offering Cornish visitors the opportunity to travel to the heart of the Rhein-Ruhr area, reports the Travel Mole website.

Newquay Cornwall Airport project director Chris Cain thinks that German visitors will use the service of Lufthansa to visit the south west of England, and explore the area where author Rosamunde Pilcher was born.

"Germany is Cornwall's strongest overseas tourist market having been popularised by the German television dramatisation of the novels by Rosamunde Pilcher and we are confident this direct link will provide an even greater boost for inbound tourism from Germany", said Chris Cain.

33% Brits support green taxes

A latest survey has shown that almost a third of Britons would be pleased to pay green taxes on their air travel if they knew that the payments thus collected would be utilised for the purpose of carbon offsetting. It is noticeable here that tourists are worried about the legitimacy of these taxes; however, if it can ensured, many more people could forward in favour of these taxes.

However, the survey, which was conducted by consultancy Hyder Consulting, has also noticed that one in six of those surveyed would not end travelling abroad in favour of UK breaks in a bid to cut their carbon footprint.

Regardless of his, one fifth of the respondents said that they have already made an attempt-or will make an effort in the future-to have more breaks in the UK. A new funding £20m has been released by the Government, which will go towards research in the UK for developing new vehicles with low carbon emissions that could be rolled on the road within the next 5 to 7 years.

Ian Pearson, Science and Innovation Minister said that the main aim of the new funds was to lead by developing new vehicle technologies at a faster pace. In an effort to help local entertainers, artists and musicians, Bristol International Airport is trying for individuals to give performance in front of a big number of travellers that pass through the airport's terminal every day. These performances have multiple effects-entertain the passengers; give opportunities to the performers; and at the same time, increase the popularity of Bristol airport and encourage the passengers to travel through their terminals.

The Bristol International Airport thinks that it will provide a platform for artists to demonstrate their expertise which will make their name known in front of a large number of people, but also emphasize the first class latest entertainment that the South West of England has to offer.

"For local groups, individuals or organisations we can offer the chance to get in front of thousands of passengers every day and for customer's using Bristol International it will provide an alternative travel experience", said Jacqui Mills, of Bristol International Airport.

To occur simultaneously with the beginning of the South Somerset Food Festival, the West Country cycling holiday specialists, Carefree Cycling Tours, invites food-loving cyclists to come along with them on a two-day tour.

This pleasing weekend begins at the Boat & Anchor pub, Huntworth  at 10am. Riders can bring their personal bikes or can also take one from the fleet of Carefree.

The entire ride -19 miles on the start day, and 17 miles on the next day - are completely-guided. At the end of each day, every cyclist is driven back to the start point.

 
   
 

   
Australian airlines launch green travel programmes

Qantas Airways and its famous low-cost carrier Jetstar have started a programme that will allow the travellers to offset the CO2 emissions caused by their flights. The airline said that the programme allows passengers to assess the per-passenger carbon emissions of their flights and purchase CO2 credits that would be directed towards a range of environmental schemes. For instance, around 1.4 tons of greenhouse gases are generated by a flight from Australia to Los Angeles, which can be netralised by paying $14.50 per flight.

The collected money would be utilised for government-approved CO2 neutralization programmes.

The air travel industry accounts for nearly 2 per cent of the world's CO emissions and pressure from environmental supporters is continuously increasing.
